Building peace, creating livelihoods, and protecting the environment in Githurai and beyond

E-CATS was founded by Romano Iluku, a community organizer from Kibera who witnessed firsthand the challenges facing informal settlements in Nairobi. What began as a grassroots response to violence and poverty has grown into a comprehensive community development organization.
We believe in the power of communities to transform themselves. Through livelihoods training, peacebuilding workshops, and environmental initiatives, we equip vulnerable populations — especially women and youth — with the tools they need to build resilient, flourishing communities.
Two interconnected approaches to community transformation

Empowering vulnerable women through business training and microloans. Our Startup Business Fund provides capital with flexible terms, creating pathways out of poverty for single mothers, young mothers, and widows.

Through the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), we equip communities with conflict resolution skills, trauma healing, and peacebuilding tools. Workshops reach informal settlements, prisons, schools, and refugee camps.
